May 2008: Trent Valley 4 Tracking

Aspin Consulting were appointed by Lundy Projects Ltd to design gantry sub-structures for 16 gantries on the prestigious Trent Valley 4 Tracking project. Due to the size of the gantries, each spanning over four tracks, a unique design solution was required. A distinctive four pile, steel framed design solution was engineered to suit local ground conditions and superstructure loads, minimise time on site and prevent unnecessary delays. The 16 gantries were erected over a 16 week period which was highly commended by Network Rail as a major achievement on a fast-track design. Aspin Consulting were also able to draw upon their experience to design out both king post retaining structures and gravity retaining solutions utilizing the precast concrete Redi-Rock blocks located around gantry stanchions positioned within cuttings, thus providing quick and simple to construct solutions with minimal need for on-site works which suited the clients specific needs at a given location.
