During the recent Christmas blockade the Western Outer Electrification (WOE) project made good progress and during this period achieved the outstanding milestone of installing the 1,000th pile.
Installing a pile is not an easy task and takes a lot of skill and planning. There are many aspects to consider including excess noise disturbing neighbours, poor ground conditions, sensitive surroundings, restricted vertical clearance, challenging accesses and steep embankments, where vibration may cause slippage. In particular this final challenge was overcome by the introduction of the non-intrusive Aspin pin pile solution.
“This is a very good achievement and is down to the dedication and hard work put in by everyone involved. This has been a pleasing team effort and thank you for all your efforts in achieving this” – Mark Hearne, Project Manager - Balfour Beatty.
The WOE project is one part of the Crossrail Programme in partnership with Network Rail. The WOE project has successfully moved forwards and the Aspin team worked together seamlessly with Balfour Beatty to ensure delivery of the foundations and piles. Following the milestone of the 1000th pile install, the project teams look forward to delivering the next stages.
