Scribbled on the wall of Andy Hoffman’s North Derbyshire office are the words ‘A true leader is not the one with the most followers but one who creates leaders’.

They were originally quoted to him, says Andy, now managing director of highly-regarded Aspin® Consulting Ltd, by the man who gave him his first opportunity to forge a career in the world of civil and structural engineering.

And, he says, they have influenced his business-thinking and drive for success ever since.

There’s no doubt that if Aspin® Consulting Ltd were a football team, it would have 11 player-managers.  As a former player, Andy knows only too well the value of teamwork.

He is adamant that building the right team of experienced professionals who also have leadership skills has not only been behind his past business successes but is also currently winning Aspin® Consulting an enviable reputation  for civil, structural, mechanical, geotechnical and electrical engineering design.

Few would argue that the eminently likeable co-founder of the Aspin Group of companies is a chap who puts his money where his mouth is.

Andy recently told everyone in the firm that they could happily have his director’s chair if they could demonstrate the backbone, skills, commitment and vision necessary to make Aspin® Consulting Ltd a major market leader.

That is Andy’s unswerving goal.

Two years ago, in response to growing demand from big-name customers, Andy exchanged his role with parent company Aspin Foundations (now led by group co-founder Barry McMahon) to head up Aspin® Consulting.

“Our team’s aim is quite simply to make this business stand out from the crowd by providing the best possible solutions to even the most exacting client briefs,” he says.

“We have a professional and dynamic team here who can boast more than 150 years experience in many specialist engineering disciplines and we are very proud of the reputation we continue to gain for the work we do and the way in which we do it.

“It may sound like a cliché but we do work hard to take away headaches and to help clients sleep soundly at night. What’s more, we have been told on more than one occasion that we are pretty good at it.”

Significantly, Andy never talks about ‘me’. It’s always ‘us’ or ‘the team’.
