During September 2015, RSI were commissioned by CRL (Concrete Repairs LTD) to undertake coring and chloride dust sampling to Walton Junction railway over bridge on the M58 in Liverpool.
In total 13 No concrete cores were taken along with 11 Chloride dust samples from a number of locations on the bridge by our in-house PTS trained NDT technicians.
The cores and chloride samples were taken to monitor the growth of the cracking and to test the concrete for ASR. If ASR is found to apply silane to slow down the affects ASR has on the surrounding concrete.
CRL took all the cores and samples for testing. RSI were brought in for the site works only. The works were completed over 4 nights with 1 lane closure per night.
RSI staff utilised in-house equipment to complete the works, they are as follows :-
- Nissan Cabstar - Multitel 22M Mobile elevated Working Platform
- Hilti DD200 coring rig with 50MM diameter core barrel
- Hilti PS250 Cover meter (Ferroscan)
- Hilti TE-60 hammer drill with 20MM drill bit
- All required PPE
The works were completed within the scheduled programme and to the clients brief. All testing was carried out following our in-house testing procedures (OST – 02 Chloride Dust Extraction & OST – 08 Core Extraction). Throughout the works a CRL representative was onsite to confirm locations of testing and to ensure a quality service was maintained.
