Aspin, a leading provider of engineered solutions for the UK’s infrastructure sectors, has strengthened its executive team with the confirmation of a number of senior appointments.
Gren Edwards, formerly Director of Rail at Costain has been appointed as Chairman, bringing nearly 40 years’ experience in rail and industry. He was at Costain for seven years until December of last year. Prior to that he spent two years as Chief Executive of Volker Rail which was formed following VolkerWessels’ acquisition of Grant Rail where Mr Edwards spent 12 years, most latterly as CEO.
Aspin’s executive team has also been augmented with other senior appointments under the leadership of Russell Ward who has a track-record in organisational transformation and business growth having led large-scale organisations such as Cape and Motherwell Bridge.
The executive team is now: Russell Ward, CEO; Iain Sale, Chief Financial Officer, Lee Healey Technical Services Director; Martin Truman, Delivery Director, Paul Oyekanmi, Commercial Director; Alice Bromwich, Head of HR; Scott Harrison, Group Development Director and Paul Hughes, Group Head of HSEQ.

Recent appointments - Biographies
Iain Sale, Chief Financial Officer
Chartered accountant with extensive commercial, financing and change management experience. Prior to joining Aspin in 2018, Iain was Chief Financial Officer for the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), the infrastructure organisation for the MoD. He also has significant experience in the energy sector, holding CFO roles at the Low Carbon Group and head of FPA at Infinis as well as the food sector where he spent seven years as Operations Director (responsible for finance) for Ishida.
Paul Oyekanmi, Commercial Director
Joined Aspin in January 2018 following nearly four years with Skanska UK as commercial director where he was responsible for civils and public realm, street lighting and rail. He also held senior commercial positions for 16 years before that with McNicholas and Alfred McAlpine.
Scott Harrison, Group Development Director
Joined in July 2018 from SPX Flow where he held the position of Commercial Director, Hydraulic Technologies EMEA and Global Rail Systems. Prior to his three-year stint with SPX Flow, Scott spent 12 years with Network Rail and six years at Torrent Trackside, which he joined from Amey Seco in 1998.
Paul Hughes, Group Head of HSEQ
Joined Aspin in June 2018, bringing extensive health and safety experience in the construction industry. Immediately prior to joining Aspin he was head of health and safety at Forrest, He has held similar positions over 20 years with Balfour Beatty, Skanska, Hewden, Tarmac and WS Atkins in addition to the civils, nuclear and petrochemical industries.
