Since 2002, RSI Ltd has been a major supply chain partner sub-contractor to several blue chip companies within the Highways England West Midlands Framework Contract, such as Amey (formally AmeyMouchel), Enterprise Mouchel Highways and more recently, Kier Highways.
Between 2002 and 2010, RSI Ltd carried out all the inspections (BD 63/07) within the Area 9 Network, covering the whole of Birmingham, plus up to approximately 65 miles of the surrounding area. This includes towns and cities such as Shrewsbury, Worcester, Hereford and Ross-on-Wye.
Within this extensive region are a multitude of structures, varying from masonry arch river bridges in the more remote areas, to multi-span structures such as viaducts supporting Birmingham’s busy motorway network. (The Midland Links).
Inspection techniques varied from in-house operated Mobile Elevated Working Platforms (MEWP’s), Specialist Underbridge Units, Rope Access and undertaking Confined Space/Diving works.
Following completion of an inspection, RSI inspection staff input condition reports directly onto the Highways England Structures Management Information System (SMIS). This includes recommended maintenance actions, which often lead to subsequent non-destructive testing (BA 35/90) which RSI Ltd also specialise in.
Since 2010, RSI has assisted HE Tier 1 contractors in various inspection and testing works within the area including Steel Paint Testing to BD 87/05, MPI Steel Weld Testing to BD 54/15, Structural Topographical/LIDAR/3D Scanning Surveys and also undertook the 2015 State of Bridge Infrastructure (SOBI) testing works within the area.
