Highways England Area 7 – East Midlands

Project Overview

RSI Ltd recently completed a 6 year framework for Aone+ within the East Midlands HE Area 7 (previously Scott Wilson & Tarmac in North East Derbyshire and the PLaN Consortium, a partnership of Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire County Councils) MAC Contract.

The framework included for the General and Principal Inspections of all structures within the East Midlands area, as well as completing all Special & Monitoring Inspections, all Pre-Opening Principal Inspections (POPI’s), End of Defect Liability Inspections (EDLI’s) and the State of Bridge Infrastructure (SOBI) testing works.

For PLaN, RSI carried out detailed post tensioned inspection work to Clifton Bridge, which carries part of the A52 northbound Nottingham ring road traffic and the merging eastbound A453 traffic over the River Trent. With over 80,000 vehicles a day using this structure, it forms a major link in Nottingham’s road network system.

Other inspection works for PLaN included a post tension inspection investigation to Winthorpe Bridge on the A1 and non-destructive testing, sampling with subsequent laboratory analysis of collected samples from several structures along the A453.

In 2016, Highways England obtained the operating of the Area 7 Network in-house and RSI Ltd were awarded the Principal and General Inspection Framework Contract once again, running until 2021. As part of this contract RSI also undertake the Special and Monitoring Inspections for Highways England.
